한국어 초록

미디아 리터러시란 인간 커뮤니케이션의 수단이 되는 신문, 잡지, TV, 라디오, 영화, 컴퓨터 등의 미디아가 제시하는 메시지를 이해하고(read) 이들 미디아를 활용하여 자신의 의사를 표현하는(write)능력을 일컫는다. 즉, 언어를 읽고 씀으로써 문맹이 되지 않듯이 미디아를 이해하고 활용함으로써 미디아 문맹이 되지 않는 "미디아 비문맹"이 미디아 리터러시가 된다.

영어 초록

Media literacy is a learned ability to interpret messages accurately(read) and to create messages(write) by utilizing various media such as newspaper television radio, movies and computers.For the literacy cosely related to contemporary life, television literacy and computer Iiteracy may be pointed out. Television is often characterized as a visual media while a large portion of computer message is often graphicalized also :computer assisted interactive video system" is emerging as a new educational media. Thus, the importance on visual message and visual lîteracy Îs încreasîng day by day. ln this respect, we might say that today's media lîteracy is mainly focused on the literacy of teleYÎsion, computer, and αher visual mediaVisual lìteracy is referred to the ability of reading and creating visual messages that express one's thought effectively through ‘Jtilizing visual media (Dobes & Williams, 1978)Visual Iiteracy is accomplished by the ability of decoding and encoding(Heinich et al, 1986) . The effective teaching method for aCQuiring decoding skills is to induce students to compose a story by presenting them a series of photographs or pictorial cards. On the other hand, for acquiring encoding skills, it is possible to guide the students to draw pictures, take photographs, or develop animations slide series, and video programs.
