From the 17th century to the mid-18th century, many people came across to Naturalism from Christian Theism. Rene Descartes declared himself as a theist, but opened a new world by claiming the cosmos consists of matter. John Locke was a theist as well, but he thought God gave us rationale as some kind of right to judge the authenticity of God’s Revelations. Naturalists took the words ‘God gave us’ out and set rationale as the only criteria for what the truth is.
Naturalism has had a considerable influence in a relatively short time within Western culture. It is a scary fact that most of us have been exposed to Naturalism through Marxism and what is called Secular Humanism.By definition, naturalism is the view that physical reality is all there is- no god, no soul. Many people nowadays fall into this worldview;the author of the book points out a huge problem with naturalism, as a persuasive worldview, that it fails to answer questions like, “How is life meaningful?” or “How can I trust my own mind?” Failure to answer these questions is a proof how contradictory Naturalism is.
