Compare and contrast Sir Raleigh’s “The Nymph’s Reply to the Shepherd” with Chris Marlowe’s “The Passionate Shepherd to his love.”
There are two major famous poems “The Nymph’s Reply to the Shepherd” by Sir Raleigh and “The Passionate Shepherd to his love” by Chris Marlowe. These two poems can be compared and contrasted by several differences and similarities. Although “The Nymph’s Reply to the Shepherd” mimics “The Passionate Shepherd to his love” in form, stanza length, meter/rhythm, and rhyme, these two poems still have their own clear opposite messages.
First of all, “The Passionate Shepherd to his love” by Chris Marlowe is the original work that is not parody or written for another work. In first stanza, reader can see the speaker of poem is unidentified shepherd and pleads with woman that if she comes and lives with him, then she will have all the pleasures and happiness.
