III. Macronutrients
Nutrients that the body uses in relatively large amounts are proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. This is as opposed to micronutrients, which the body requires in smaller amounts, such as vitamins and minerals. Macronutrients provide calories to the body as well as performing other functions.
Examples: Proteins, carbohydrates, and fats (lipids) are the three types of macronutrients.
IV. Fibre/Fiber (health requirement)
Fiber is an important component of a healthy balanced diet. People get fiber from plant-based foods, but it`s not something the body can absorb. This means fiber is not a nutrient and contains no calories or vitamins.
Characteristics of Fibre/Fiber
- Fiber helps one’s digestive system to process food and absorbs nutrients.
- Fiber lowers blood cholesterol.
- Fiber helps to control blood sugar levels, which in turn controls appetite
