When we think of Indian`s images, people uncivilized and barbarous occur to us. It is natural for us to regard Indians as uneducated and impassive on account of the media made by American. Americans often describe Indians as villains doing harm to them through the mass media. They have told to us the history of the Wild West is the righteous history to enlighten and conquer belligerent native Indians from the past. For this reason, we misunderstand what the real Indians are without encountering them in details. As many people believe that Indians are unemotional, I also consider them as savage. However, my thoughts about Indians were somewhat changed after watching “Dances with Wolves”.

Another important symbol of this movie is buffalos. One day, Indians are worried about their shortage of food. While Dunbar sleeping at night, he feels the shock and tells Indians he finds buffalos immediately. After this incident, he assimilates into the Indian tribe as a member naming Dances with wolves not John Dunbar. Buffalos are a great medium which connects John Dunbar and Indians. Also, buffalos represent pitiable Indians who are attacked by white people.
