Social contagion theory I consider a better explanation. The emergent-norm theory says that we show crowd behavior when we feel we ‘have to’ do. Crowd behavior I have seen, however, is not such a thing. People don’t stand it. They don’t have to. People do it from their own free willingness. Of course the willingness might come from the atmosphere, anyway the decision is theirs. This theory shows an example of antisocial behavior but the participants behave not because the others do it but because they want it themselves. This theory can’t explain people who do not behave like others in the situation of crowd behavior. If they don’t want to do, they don’t. That is what human beings, I think.
Crowd behavior is not just from great social pressure. Rather it comes from a sense of freedom out of the social pressure. They are nameless. Nobody asks them why you are doing this. They can do whatever they want. (Like I said before, they do nothing if they don’t want to. It doesn’t really matter!) Usually they cannot live like this because of others and social pressure.
