Q1. Can the readers literally accept the meaning of the second stanza? [The Canonization]
John Donne pursued realism, even though he lived during the 1500s and 1600s when Petrarchism and Courtly love prevailed. He rejected the usual and conventional love poem and wrote his works with hard logic. Therefore, the excessively exaggerated second stanza can be interpreted as a parody of the Petrarchan sonnet rather than containing true meaning.
Q2. Why does the poet use “his”, not “my”? [To his coy Mistress]
If the narrator uses “My”, there is a possibility that the story will lack objectivity. By using the word “His”, the poet seems to imply more universal love. Because the character is not limited to a particular person, the poet might use “his”.
