Lines 218~224
In the lines from 218~224, gradually, Grisild’s behavior and personality described by the narrator is like a woman who makes sacrifices for her husband, but in this line she sacrifices for her father. When the narrator depicts Grisild, he used words related to devotion such as “reverence and charitee”. Also, she cares for a few sheep which reminds of the Virgin Mary who is caring for sheep. Actually, the figure of the Virgin Mary who spins thread and cares for sheep can be seen through illustration in the Middle Ages. The image like the Virgin Mary and choice of words makes Grisild into the image of a woman saint.
