From Jurassic Park’s opening scene, director Steven Spielberg reveals his penchant for visual humor, but importantly, visual humor that buttresses or reflects the movie’s theme. As the film opens, for example, we can see a group of nervous, armed men standing in a nighttime jungle. From their expressions, we can know that they now face grave danger. It was remarkable how Spielberg captured the tension and the fear created by the dinosaurs in a genius way without showing the dinosaur directly. The shots were cut so that the camera can focus on the dinosaur prison cage and the workers nervousness at the same time the front scene only shows the trees swaying which looks as though it indicates that something huge and dangerous is coming on its way, and the workers and the hunter looks at the swaying trees as though they are waiting for hell from the heavens to reign down upon them. In fact, the angle of the cameras are mostly starting from the bottom to the upper angle, they might be using crane for showing their figures from bottom to top, emphasizing their tension and their fears while they look up to the prison slowly descending from the sky.
