Pamala (2000) who is a researcher of broadcast reported that the popularity of the sitcom helped propel American commercial television from its origins as an off-shoot of radio to a multi-billion dollar industry (p. 418); it suggested that tremendous popularity of sitcoms immensely affected to television industry.
