One outstanding difference between hard lenses and soft lenses is the permeability of oxygen. Usually, eyes get a supply of oxygen by tear flow. As tears circulate, eyes get much oxygen. The soft lens is usually bigger than the pupil, and it covers a large part of an eyeball by sticking to the cornea. Then, there is not much space between a soft lens and a pupil for tears to flow and results in lack of oxygen that can be dissolved in tears and reaches to the pupil. On the contrary, a hard lens is smaller than soft lens and it moves smoothly in the eye and makes tear flow possible. Thus, eyes gain 90% of oxygen.
