Analytical Essay of Pride and Prejudice
Love is a singular word which, over time, has developed a wide array of meanings and definitions, with each era redefining love in new and novel ways. The novel, Pride and Prejudice, written by Jane Austen contains very different notions of love and each can be seen to illustrate both internal and external conflicts between main characters and highlight the differences of the values and attitudes of their genders and social classes. Pride and Prejudice demonstrates how romantic love or marriage is determined by the surrounding society’s presumptions or prejudices about social class, romance and gender; comparatively.
The Regency Period (1795-1830) in England was a time of stark contrasts, of defining styles and tastes, yet also of scandal and gossip. Major factors which motivated people of the era were whether or not their wealth and social class held them in the upper classes. Women’s importance was valued below those of their husbands and so
