Katherine Mansfield is known for her sophisticated depicts of emotions mainly about girls but she also was fond of those of men-especially old men.. I attracted about this theme when I read her many short stories and found two stories including the theme of old man and the fear of death. I would like to focus on "Fly" and "An Ideal Family" as a matter of it.
"The Fly" is about a old man. there were two old men in this story woodifield and the boss. woodifield was old and weak and after his retire his wife and daughter had confined him home and let him go he wants to only on Tuesday. woodifield went to his frined the boss`s office. Two old men both lost their sons and woodifield talked about tomb of the boss`s son who six years ago died in the war. After he was gone, the boss was extensively agitated by sad emotions of recalling his dear dead son. Then, suddenly a fly soaked in the ink and tried to way out of it. the boss carefully watched it and would like to give the fly some trials. he scooped it from the ink and put it on the paper. then droped a big black ink onto him again and again. And the last time the boss thought this is the end; but the fly died. After this incident, the boss also again agitated by some emotions he cannot describe in words.
