A.Introduction
Lawana Blackwell once said that "Age is no guarantee of maturity." This is espacially true in the book "The Catcher In The Rye" by J.D Salinger. In the book, the main character, Holden Calufield portray actions that are a little below the maturity of his age. On the other hand, his youger sister, Phoebe Caulfield display actions that are mature for her age. In this term paper, I will attempt to explain this by first defining the term 'maturity' and then applying this to the two characters through their actions in chapter 21 and 22.
B. Definition of 'Maturity'
Maturity has to be looked at in two perspectives -physical and psycological. When one looks at this in the physical perspective, it is very easy to determine whether a person is mature or not. Obviously, a mature person would be a fully-grown adult. There's a difference, however, in the psychological maturity. For a person to be psychologically mature, the person should be responsible
