From November 4th, each school from elementary to high school in Seoul has been prohibited from punishing the students physically, according to the new policy of Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. On account of this great change, a number of schools are in a state of disorder. Have these problems indeed emerged since the policy is not appropriate for real state of school?
In a lot of recent research, the many drawbacks of corporal punishment were proved and they helped to put emphasis on the eradication of violence in schools. As a result, causing a number of disputes, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has decided to put a ban on physical punishment.
However, it has given rise to the following troubles in school. Because it could make it hard to control disobedient students immediately, other students may suffer from disturbance; the teachers who lost the will to guide students could assume the attitude of an onlooker.
