7. Stress
- Korean is a Syllable-timed language in which each syllable has a stress. That means it keeps the beat by the syllable. This category contains Korean, Japanese, and some Latinic languages like Italian and Spanish. On the contrary to this, English is a Stress-timed language. That means it keeps the beat by the stress. In English, the time you read one sentence depends on how many stresses the sentence has, regardless of the number of the syllables.
7. 강세
- 한글은 문장의 매 음절에 강세가 주어지는 ‘음절박자언어(Syllable-timed language)’라 한다. 즉, 음절에 의해 박자를 맞추는 언어란 뜻이며, 우리말과 일본어, 이탈리어, 스페인어 등 라틴계 언어가 여기에 속한다. 이에 비해 영어는 ‘강세박자언어(Stress-timed language)`라고 한다. 강세에 의해 박자를 맞추는 언어란 의미이며, 영어에서는 한 문장을 말하는 데 걸리는 시간이 강세의 숫자에 비례하고 음절수와 관계없다.
