본문내용
The author enlightens social movements in 18C of France through a story about a massacre of cats that was described by an apprentice print worker, Nicolas Contact. The event which was illustrated as “the great cat massacre’” happened in a print shop of the rue Saint-Sevérin during the late 1730s in France where cats enjoyed a noble quality life provided by the print shop owners, bourgeois, while apprentice printers suffered from hard conditions of life. So the apprentice printers made a plan to clean up the favoured cats, and thanks to the success of the plan, all print shop workers enjoyed the massacre including execution of the favourite of master’s wife, la grise. They also found hilarity from reenacting the entire scene as a means of showing their insubordination and contempt for their masters, the bourgeois.
