1.0 IntroductionThe physical punishment of children has become a controversial social issue for communities all over the world. Numerous countries in Asia allow children to be punished as they believe that spanking children will improve their personality. Corporal punishment of children is not a new issue. It has been a difficult problem for parents for a long time. Many people believe that the physical punishment of children does not create a stable family. Child abuse is fundamentally wrong and they believe that it destroys the sense of family and affects children’s personalities. On the other hand, other people believe that punishing children should be allowed to make their children better in the future and some parents believe they have the right to spank their children to gain respect. Also, they believe that punishing children is the easiest way to change children’s behaviors. This paper will compare both sides to show why physically punishing children is harmful to their relationship with their parents and can produce negative results with the children. There are many examples of abused children who later in life duplicate the same abuse with their own children.
2.0 Harm to children’s behavior
Physical punishment is harmful to children and those who oppose it believe it is not necessary. In contrast, there are some other people who believe that physically punishing children is right because it will curtail bad behavior and will help to reform their attitude. Moreover, they believe punishing children physically improves their manners.
