English Teaching Material for Grade 6(Elementary School)Listening
(1) Objectives
Listening is the most important part in English teaching. If you can`t listen to what others say, you can`t even respond correctly. That`s why good listening skill is needed for students who study English as a second language. It`s obvious that many students feel that listening is difficult part in their English-learning progress. Easier and more comfortable ways to teach and learn listening skill should be applied. In this paper, the target student is sixth grade in elementary school and the level should be intermediate students.
(2) Total Physical Response
The method I`d like to use is the Total Physical Response(TPR). The founder of this method, James Asher, said that students appear to do a lot of listening before they speak, and their listening is accompanied by physical responses such as reaching, grabbing, moving, looking and so on. In this sense, Asher suggested TPR classroom. In the TPR class, students do listening and acting a lot. For example, when a teacher says something imperative in English, student will act what the teacher says.
