1. Abstract
The temperature distribution within a mechanical component may play an important role in its ability to perform without failure. Even at temperature below property degradation levels, a variable temperature distribution can produce thermal stress. Thermal stress may combine directly with stresses from mechanical loading by superposition in linear analyses.
The first step in finding the thermal stress is to determine the temperature distribution. And to use the temperature distribution we can compute the thermal stress by using the finite element method.

2. Applications of FEA for conduction heat transfer.
We may form heat conduction elements for problems in one-dimension, two-dimensions, or three-dimensions as was done with structural elements. These formulations are then available in the element library of a finite element code for selection by the user.
